The website for this impressive memorial states: "Constructed in 1988 to overlook the state Capitol in Frankfort, the Kentucky Vietnam Veterans Memorial honors 1,109 Kentucky Veterans who served this nation during the Vietnam War. Each Veteran's name is precisely engraved on the blue-gray granite so the shadow of the sundial pointer touches their name on the anniversary of their death. Thus, each individual is honored with a personal tribute. The names of POW/MIA (Prisoners of War/Missing in Action) are engraved on the stone that is located behind (south of) the gnomon. In this location, the gnomon shadow will never fall on these names." Thoughtful and creative, this memorial is one of the most moving tributes I've seen.

Frankfort Cemetery: Daniel Boone
Grave of Daniel Boone, Frankfort Cemetery, Frankfort, Franklin County
Boone's wife, Rebecca, is also buried here.
I love the bark on this beautiful tree that shelters Boone's grave.
Very close to Daniel Boone's grave is the grave of Elison Williamson, Boone's longtime friend.

Ward Oates Amphitheatre
Ward Oates Amphitheatre, Frankfort, Franklin County
Throughout the summer, the amphitheatre hosts free concerts. The Kentucky River serves as the backdrop.
Jeri Katherine Howell performing at the amphitheatre on June 13.
For information about Mr. Ward Oates, who made this venue possible, I suggest reading his obituary. As it says, Ward Oates knew how to lead, love, and live.
