The Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come (1903) was probably Fox's most popular novel and was one of the
first novels published in America to sell a million copies.

Many of Fox's novels, including much of The Little Shepherd of Kingdom
 Come, are set in the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky.

Fox's passages about nature are particularly descriptive.  In the excerpt above, for example, an
approaching thunderstorm is described as an army getting ready to attack the enemy.
