Elk View Overlook

The driveway from the main road to the overlook

Much of the view from the overlook is of reclaimed land that was strip mined by Breathitt County coal miners.

From the parking lot, visitors can access the overlook.

Informational signs along the path of the overlook explain the history and mission of Elk View.

Breathtaking Views

Elk have been reintroduced to the area, but deer and wild horses are also abundant here.

Numerous wild horses were near the overlook when I visited.

Curious But Cautious

When I stopped to take photos, this sweet baby was immediately curious about me--as was mom.

She soon began to make her way toward me. . .

. . .never straying too far from mom.

After mom checked me out, . . .

. . .baby came to visit.

After a quick "hello," she said goodbye.
